The Answer Is Often Insurance

At the Harris Tuthill Group, we flat out love insurance. That sounds like a strange thing to say, and yet, over the course of our history, insurance has been a way to meet many of our client's needs in incredibly unique and different circumstances. The word insurance doesn't make people feel excited when they hear it, but we get excited about it. Let me explain why. We all have some kind of insurance on our cars and homes, and most of us have it for our bodies and overall health. But insurance can protect you if you become disabled and can no longer work the same job. It can protect your business if something happens where your business must pause, thereby helping to protect you, your business, and your employees. Insurance can help you keep key personnel working in your business. It can help your heirs to pay estate taxes. You can use it to pass wealth to the next generation. You can even insure your dog. A great example of a simple daily insurance need is my dog, Smokey. If you've ever met Smokey, you know he's high energy and very hyper. He's never met someone he didn't want to give sloppy kisses to. And his favorite way to express his personality is to bounce on his hind legs like Tigger. But Smokey is a labrador retriever - a big dog, and big dogs are already prone to tearing their ACLs and requiring a surgery that can cost from $7,000to $10,000. Within 48 hours of owning Smokey, I knew that he might very well need such a surgery and priced out the cost of insurance. If one time in his life span, Smokey needs a surgery, he's covered, except for a $500 deductible. And that's peace of mind. Though my partner Chris and I continually remind him not to bounce so much, and Chris rigorously trains him to strengthen those muscles, we both feel that Smokey has a great risk of hurting himself and that simple pet insurance policy provides me peace of mind. In small situations, as in large situations, we, at the Harris Tuthill Group, often find that insurance can be the answer.
